Creating a Map

To create a custom map go to our website and click on FIND A MAP

STEP 1: Enter your search location using any of the following criteria:
  • Search for a Place or Address
  • Search by GPS Coordinate
  • Upload a GPX File
  • Find a GMU, Hunting Area, or WMA/State Park Map
  • Find a Backpacker Magazine Pro Map
  • Find a Lake Map
  • Find Maps and USGS Quads by State  - we provide the option to order the new US Topo or the traditional quad

STEP 2: Build your map

1. Select a Base Map Type:
  • Topo Map
  • Color Aerial Photo
  • Premium Satellite
  • Hybrid TopoPhoto
2. Premium Overlays (not all layers available in all locations)

Private Property Boundaries
Public Land Boundaries
US Forest Service Roads and Trials
GMU Boundaries
Lake Contours

These premium map overlays are an additional $5.00 per map, except the private property boundaries which are $20.00 more.

3. Choose Map Area- Paper Size
  • 18x24
  • 24x36
  • 36x48
  • 4x5 (uses banner paper)
  • 5x8 (uses banner paper)
            Wide (landscape)  or  Tall (portrait)

4:  Map Zoom - we offer nine zoom levels.  For topo maps the most you can zoom in is 1:10,000.  For aerials, it's 1:2500, and for satellite maps, it's 1:1000.  We do not recommend zooming out to 1:50,000 unless you are doing so to use with a protractor/grid tool of that scale.  The topo map print gets very small and hard to read when zoomed out to 1:50,000.

STEP 3: Choose your map finish (paper type)

  • Waterproof "Outdoor" Map

MyTopo waterproof maps are printed with UV fade-resistant and waterproof inks on a special waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Waterproof maps are available rolled or folded for rugged outdoor use.

  • Laminated Map

Full-seam laminated map printed with UV fade-resistant inks. The lamination protects the map from water and dirt and is writable/erasable with standard dry-erase markers. Available rolled.

STEP 4: Personalize your map

  • Add a name, title, select navigational grids or no grids, relief shading or no shading etc...

Don't forget to view a full preview of your map before purchase.
