How do I get a more recent map? And what are US Topos?

For our custom topo maps in the US, we rely primarily on the classic USGS 7.5' sheets. While topography (contour lines) rarely change, the other map features (streets, etc.) can be 20 or more years out of date. However, they remain the most detailed maps available for the US.

We do offer the up-to-date US Topos (see below), which you can purchase by the quad. These maps are a derivative of the traditional topo maps and may have updated streets and roads, and other layers of importance to you. Please review both maps to determine which will serve you best. (Note that US Topos are not available as custom maps at this time - they can only be purchased by individual quad sheet.)

We also offer aerial photography and satellite images. Our aerial maps are usually within three years old. You can order an aerial and a matching topo map to get a very complete view of the land.  We also offer a hybrid "TopoPhoto" which combines the current aerial image with the classic USGS topo map. These can be fantastic maps, but please preview them to make sure you prefer the combined map versus ordering each separately.

What are US Topo maps and how do they differ from the classic USGS quads?
US Topo is the new generation of digital topographic maps from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Arranged in the traditional 7.5-minute quadrangle format, digital US Topo maps look and feel like the traditional paper topographic maps for which the USGS is so well known. They they are a derivative of the classic USGS map but also includes updated roads, streets, and other layers that are valuable to you. When printing a quad sheet, MyTopo offers you the option to select the new US Topo or the classic USGS 7.5 minute maps (that remain the most detailed available in the US.) Custom maps always use the classic USGS quads.
